How to write a Haiku

Published by

Haiku is a form of Japanese poem. It is short and easy to write. However, there are some essential rules that you should pay attention to if you want to write Haiku:

  1. A Haiku consist of 17 syllables (5 in the first row, 7 in the middle row and again 5 in the last row)
  2. You should include a seasonal word. This could be blossoms in spring, snow in winter, or maybe a pumpkin for autumn.
  3. A Haiku should include a kind of ‘break’ or a ‘cutting word’, where something changes suddenly. You could, for example, describe two contradicting aspects of one moment.

Try to write your own Haiku and post it in the comments šŸ™‚

Wow, this is a nice one! I love the contrast between the first two and the last row.
